Latest micro controller MCU development boards

Embedded system design has never been so easy before. Today embedded system ecosystem offers easy access to development boards and most important feature is embedded software support. The prototyping scenario has seen an escalation and one of the biggest factors is the range of microcontroller (MCU) development boards out there in the market. From low cost micro controller development boards to powerful application specific ones, with new features things are available.

Quite a few development boards in the market are general Micro controller MCU specific, such as STM32 discovery kits, MSP430 from Texas instruments or Xplained boards from Atmel. Local companies design some of the economically available micro controller boards. In both cases MCU development boards come in two flavours; one is the MCU evaluation board, where the focus is on evaluating MCU Capabilities. Second category is application of feature specific, where the board is desingned for the purpose of evaluating certain features of the MCU and is usually focussed on some application area.

Broadly there are 3 different categories of Micro controller boards: Generic multi-purpose Boards; Today every MCU manufacturer like Microchip, NXP, Cypress, TI and Atmel provide and evaluation kit compatible with their microcontrollers. Manufacturers like Arduino, Sparkfun, Adafruit, Mikroelectronika are popular among students and professionals.

Development boards for Microcontrollers based on AVR, PIC, 8051 and ARM7 architectures are very popular among students and beginners as these are easily available in the local market. These come with a varying set of on board peripherals to suit a wide range of applications for every budget. MCU development platforms such as Arduino come with a host of free and open source libraries.

Application specific development boards: such boards are dedicated task oriented and mostly used by companies or engineers building specific products in areas such as home/industrial automation, automotive applications. These development boards allow to rapidly test the functionality of the microcontroller MCU as per the requirements before moving on to fabricating custom printed circuit boards.

Industry-ready development boards: advanced processing power boards based on ARM7 or ARM9 microcontroller architecture are used for industrial applications. These include cubietruck boards and dual core or quadrcore processors boards which are mostly used for media processing in applications like smart televisions, media centers and digital video recorders.

Different microcontrollers have varying features and the entire board is based on supported feature of the MCU. Primarily one looks at Microcontroller MCU boards for their processing and memory capability but nowadays most of these offer decent RAM and flash capabilities.

A Large Scope of Job in Engineer core fields are waiting ahead

Wonder the thing is, most people think that to get a job in Engineering design sector they’ll have to do Engineering Design Courses like AutoCAD, Solid Works & Catia. But the fact is Design Software knowledge is not for design field only. Most of the Manufacturing Department prefers the knowledge of design not just to make design, but to read as well. The engineer should have knowledge of 2D-3D design to deal with Production, IQC (Incoming Quality Control), FAQ (Final Assurance Quality), R&D (Research & Development) Departments.

An engineer who has 2D designing Knowledge may move towards different engineering sector too. For Example a Mechanical engineer who has 2D designing knowledge can deal with the Civil, Electrical & Electronics or more fields.

If we talk about Software specialization It depends upon the companys’ product. Solid Works & Catia both are 3D Design software. Now the first question is: which software to learn!

Don’t worry!!! Actually Catia is used for best surfacing and to make complex designs while Solid Works to make Simple part designs.

There are thousands of industries with thousands of vender companies having job vacancies for both the software, However industries prefer best programming skills holder or experienced ones.

Engineers studying or recently passed out from colleges lack the practical knowledge desired by such industry. Fresher just need to have a strong software platform, where they can fulfill the industry requirements, just need to vanish the gap between fresher and industry.

Government’s initiatives: Govt. has already achieved a great success in production of automobiles and planning to do well in future.

Third largest automotive market by 2016-2017.Four largest manufacturing hubs across the country:-East – Jamshedpur, Kolkata, West – Mumbai, Pune, Nasik, Aurangabad, North – Delhi, Gurgaon, Faridabad, South – Chennai, Bengaluru, Horus. Fifth largest passenger and commercial vehicles manufactures. Six million plus Hybrid and Electric vehicles to be sold by 2020 per year.Seventh largest producer with production of 24 million vehicles.

Carrier Scope: Suzuki (Japan), Nissan (Japan), Piaggio (Italy), Volkswagen (Germany), Renault (France), Hyundai (South Korea), General motors (USA), BMW (Germany), Ford (USA), Toyota (Japan), Larsen & Toubro, Jindal Steel works, Machino Plastic, UNO Minda, Imperial Auto pvt ltd, Bosch, Bhushan Steels, Vacmet India ltd, Motherson.

This sudden development has generated a huge demand for Design Engineers in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics and Civil Sector.
